You may have seen YouTube videos showing how to play GBA Games on your iPod Touch, but it mentioned JailBreaking, and you may have no idea what that is or how to do it. There are many ways to jailbreak your iPod Touch, and I will go through some of them here.

  1. JailBreakMe.com

JailBreakMe.com is an in-device method of jailbreaking your iPod Touch, but it doesn't work for some older models. Open up the Safari App with an internet connection, and enter the url. Once there, you will either be told your iDevice is not supported, or you can swipe the slide lock to begin your jailbreak.

IMPORTANT: Make a backup of your iTunes before Jailbreaking. It can be reversed by restoring in the appstore, but it will restore to factory default.

2. greenpois0n

Greenpois0n is a programme, downloadable from http://greenpois0n.com/. It works by prompting you to plug in your iDevice. Once you start the jailbreak, you will be told to hold down either the Home button, the Lock button or both for a few seconds each. If done correctly, you should now have a perfectly functioning jailbroken iDevice! Your iPod will scroll through tonnes of lines of text and technological gibberish for a moment, but this is normal. Your iDevice will then automatically reboot. Once you have gotton back into your iPod, locate the app named "Loader". Open it and you will be able to download Cydia, the Appstore of Jailbroken iPods.

Cydia:

Cydia is an app that lets you download third-party applications, modifications and other goodies for your jailbroken iDevice. Now that you have this app, we can get what we need to play GBA games.

  1. Download gpSPhone. This app normally costs $4.99, but if you go to Manage>Sources>Edit>Add, type in http://cydia.xsellize.com/, this adds the xSellize source, which basically is just another place that Cydia can pull the app from. You can now get gpSPhone for free. Go ahead and download it.
  2. Now you what you want are ROMs, which are the game files you play on the emulator. To get these, open gpSPhone and go to the Browse Tab. From there, click Search. You will find yourself at a Google Search. Click the first result, which should be DopeROMs. At the left, click Gameboy Advance Gba. Search for the ROM you want, When you have found it, double click it. Once there, click Download ROM, then once taken to the next page, find and click Download ROM again. Click CONFIRM and wait for the blue box to close. Then change tab and go back to Browse. Find your ROM and click it to play.
  3. Once you start the ROM, you will have the option between "Portrait & Sound", "Portrait & No Sound", "Landscape & Sound" and "Landscape and No Sound". These are pretty self explanitory. Portrait features a visible pad with buttons and controls, but this reduces the size of the screen. Playing Landscape puts the buttons and controls semi-transparent over the screen, with the option to be completely transparent. You can save by pushing Menu at the top of the screen. Save [Currently Loaded] State overwrites your previous save on that game which you loaded. Save State to New File saves the game to a seperate file so you can have multiple saves. Toggle Loaded Cheats allows you to enable and disable cheats you have already loaded. Quit to Menu does what it suggests, and quits the game and takes you to the main emulator menu. Make sure you save the game with the Menu button, as saving ingame does not save your progress with an emulator.
